The Highlander

The Highlander is a new breed of cat developed primarily from the Highland Lynx and Desert Lynx breeds.  Originally registerable with the Rare and Exotic Feline Registry, the Highlander is now a Preliminary breed with TICA.
The Highlander is a unique cat for several reasons.  The most obvious is it's appearance.  With curled ear, hock length tail, large size, and broad face, the Highlander has been bred to have the appearance of a 'big cat'.   The personality of a Highlander is also unique.  Both cat and dog lovers might be surprised by this cat's out-going, fun-loving, and often fearless personality.  They can easily be taught tricks, to walk on a leash, and to get along with other species of animals.

The Desert Lynx

The Desert Lynx has been around a long time. This is the breed that the Highalnder/HIghland Lynx came from.  Timberline Cattery Developed the first Highland lynx by crossing a Jungle Curl with a Desert lynx.  There is some contraversy on whether the Desert Lynx has wild cat blood or is purely domestic.  There is no doubt that breeders have used African Jungle cats for this breeding program and possibly other known crosses of wild cats (such as the asian leopard cat used in bengal breeding programs).  However, it has never been genetically proven that any cats are actual Bobcat or Lynx hybrids. Bobcats are further away from the domestic cat on the evolutionary tree then one might think.  They look similar but are genetically very different.  If you think you might have a cross, please get it varified through DNA testing!

The Mohave Bob

The Mohave bob was developed using the Desert lynx and Highland lynx as a foundation breed and crossing it with a Selkirk rex. This added the curly coat gene and gives the cats an extra wild and woolly appearance.  Windswept cattery is responsible for the developement of this breed.     In total, this cat can have up to four mutations: curled ears, curly coat, polydactyl paws, and a natural bob tail.
This cats curly coat is super soft and silky.
